Peking University

The oldest higher education institution in China, Peking University was founded in 1898 as a replacement for the ancient Guozijian school (Imperial College). By the early 1920s, it had become a center for Chinese progressive thought, playing an important role in China's New Culture Movement, the May Fourth Movement, and the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989, among other significant historical events. Peking University is a comprehensive and National key university. The campus, known as "Yan Yuan"-- the gardens of Yan, is situated at the northeast of the Haidian District at the western suburbs of Beijing. It stands near the Yuan Ming Gardens and the Summer Palace.

Fudan University

Fudan University was established in 1905 as Fudan Public School. It was the first institution of higher education to be founded by a Chinese persona. The name Fudan is composed of two Chinese characters: fù (“return”) and dàn (“dawn”). They were borrowed from the Confucius classic A Commentary on The Classic of History, of which the part on the Yu and the Xia dynasties mentions: “Brilliant are the sunshine and moonlight, again the morning radiance returns at dawn.” In 2000, a new Fudan University emerged after the merger with Shanghai Medical University.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Founded in 1896, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the most prestigious universities in China. The main language of instruction is Mandarin, while more and more undergraduate and postgraduate courses are being taught in English or jointly taught with international institutions. The university’s several campuses across Shanghai encompass an enormous arena with several badminton courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, bookstores, canteens, cafes and restaurants.

Zhejiang University

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of China’s top higher education institutions, as well as one of its oldest; its roots can be traced back to 1897 and the founding of the Qiushi Academy. Located in Hangzhou – one of China’s most picturesque cities – the University is organized across seven faculties and 36 schools. It is home to 3,611 full-time faculty members, including 41 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. ZJU has 53,673 students, over 53% of whom are postgraduate students.

China Medical University

The university has steadily grown to its present position as one of the foremost medical universities in Taiwan. The university has two major campuses, Taichung (including Wuquan and Ankang) and Beigang.China Medical University (CMU) was established as China Medical College on June 6, 1958 and transformed itself into China Medical University in 2003. It is the first academic institution in Taiwan where Chinese medicine and pharmacy programs are provided.
